Light and space review
We look at window orientation, ceiling height, flooring and fixed finishes like countertops or roof tile, since these shape which colors will work before we pull a single sample.
Colors that looked right on a tiny chip often look washed out, too bright or oddly green once they hit a Sarasota wall, and choosing wrong means paying for a second repaint.

A color consultation is an in-home visit where we help you choose interior or exterior colors using large painted sample boards viewed in your actual light. In Sarasota that means testing against strong sun, roof and paver colors and HOA palettes, then settling on the right sheen for each surface before any painting begins.
Choosing colors is the part of a paint project most people dread, and for good reason. A chip the size of a postage stamp under store lighting tells you very little about how a color will behave across a whole room or the front of a house. Florida light makes it harder still. Bright midday sun bleaches soft colors toward white, while the warm light of late afternoon can push a neutral gray toward blue or green. A consultation takes the guessing out by testing colors where they will actually live.
We bring large sample boards painted in real paint, not printed swatches, and move them around the room or along the exterior so you can see each option on different walls and at different times of day. We talk through undertones, how colors relate to floors, cabinets, roof tiles and pavers, and which sheens make sense in each space. The aim is a short list you feel confident about, and a final schedule that tells our painters exactly what goes where.

Painted boards are moved around the room or held against the exterior so you see each color at full scale, in morning and afternoon light, beside your real materials.
Many color mistakes come from undertones. We point out whether a white leans yellow, pink or gray, and pair it with trim and ceiling colors that do not clash with it.
If your community restricts exterior colors, we work inside the approved palette and help you choose a body, trim and accent combination likely to pass review.
Flat, matte, eggshell, satin and semi-gloss each have a place. We match sheen to traffic, moisture and surface condition, room by room and on every exterior surface.
You leave with a clear list of colors and sheens assigned to walls, ceilings, trim, doors and exterior surfaces, so nothing is decided on the fly during painting.

Gulf Coast sunlight is intense, and it bounces off water, white sand, pale concrete and light stucco. Colors that seem deep and rich elsewhere often read lighter here, and very saturated exterior colors fade faster under our UV. For exteriors we usually suggest testing a shade or two darker than your first instinct, then checking it at midday. Indoors, rooms facing the water or a pool can pick up a cool reflected tint, while north-facing rooms in block homes can feel flatter than expected, so one paint can look like two colors in the same house.
Architecture plays a part as well. Sarasota School of Architecture mid-century homes often look best with restrained palettes that respect their clean lines and large glass, while 1920s Mediterranean Revival homes suit warmer stucco tones with darker accents on doors, shutters and ironwork. Many newer communities require HOA color approval, and some have a fixed palette of body and trim combinations. For seasonal owners who are only in town part of the year, we can schedule the consultation during a visit so colors are settled before painting happens while they are away.
When you call, we ask about the rooms or exterior involved, colors you already like or dislike, HOA requirements and timeline, so the visit is focused from the start.
During the visit we walk the spaces with you, note the light, flooring, fixed finishes and existing colors, and talk about the feel you want in each area.
We place large sample boards on several walls or exterior faces and compare them side by side, narrowing the list by eliminating colors that clash or wash out.
Once colors are chosen, we recommend a sheen for each surface based on durability, moisture, wall condition and how much natural light each room actually receives.
Everything goes into a color schedule you keep. If you hire our crew for the painting, that same schedule goes straight to the painters working on your home.
We price color consultation after seeing the job, and the written quote lists every item below that applies.
Call the office any hour and we will set a walk-through time.
Most visits take an hour or two, depending on how many rooms or exterior areas are involved. A single room can be quicker, while a whole house with an exterior and an HOA palette takes longer. We would rather spend the extra time testing boards in different light than rush you into a choice you second-guess later.
No. We focus on the colors themselves, using painted sample boards rather than steering you toward a particular manufacturer. If you already have favorite colors from any line, we can work with those and test them on your walls. What matters most is how the color looks in your light, next to your floors and fixed finishes.
Yes. If your community has an approved palette, we start there and help you pick a combination that suits your home's style and roof color. We can paint sample boards from the palette so you see them at full scale. You still handle the approval with the association, but you go in with a clear, coordinated choice.
It depends on the room. Flat or matte finishes hide wall imperfections and suit ceilings and low-traffic spaces. Eggshell and satin clean better and work for living areas, bedrooms and hallways. Semi-gloss is common for trim, doors, kitchens and baths. Exteriors in Sarasota usually look best and clean easiest in a low-sheen or satin finish.
